Collection from Noida & Indirapuram, Ghaziabad

Purpose of Test

Billirubin in our body is produced by a process called as hemolysis, which is the breakdown of protein present in the red blood cells. The liver of our body performs the action of removing this Billirubin from our body. Hence, by knowing the level of Billirubin one can know if the liver of a person is working properly or not. This is the main purpose of this test.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
For adults usually the normal range for this test is considered as 0.3 to 0.8 mg/dL. This value is the difference of values between the normal values of total billirubin and direct billirubin.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results

The value higher than the normal value is an abnormal value of Billirubin test. High abnormal value indicates that red blood cells are more prone to get damaged which may lead to the following problems:-

  • Hemolytic Anemia
  • Bleeding inside the skin
  • Bleeding in lungs due to blood clot.

    How Test Performed

Not many preparations are required before the test. Only few medications which may alter the result should be avoided before the test taking the doctor’s advice. The doctor or lab attendant will take the blood sample of patient and will test it in the laboratory to know the level of unconjugated Billirubin in the blood.
