CA 15.3 Serum Test

Purpose of Test
CA 15.3 is a protein which is produced by the breast cancer cells in the body. This test is used to measure the level of this protein in the body to monitor the patient’s response to the breast cancer treatment. This test is thus very important for a patient suffering from breast cancer and helps the doctor to diagnose such patient properly.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The normal value for this test varies according to gender. In males it is found to be less than 30U/ml whereas in females it should be less than 35U/ml.
REASONS BEHIND ABNORMAL RESULTS
The values other than the normal values are considered abnormal. If the results are abnormal then the patient might be suffering through following diseases:-

How Test Performed
This test is also performed normally by taking the patient’s blood sample. The blood sample is then tested in laboratory to know the level of CA 15.3 in the blood. This will give doctor the report that whether the patient is responding towards the treatment or not. Generally no prior preparations are required for the test.
