Purpose of Test
Our body may suffer from inappropriate blood clot or coagulation. This test is used to diagnose such conditions. It actually measures the level of a substance which is released when a blood clot breaks up. Knowing this level it can be examined that whether the blood clotting process is taking place properly or not and helps in diagnosing various blood clotting diseases.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
A normal result of the d-dimer test is negative. This indicates that the patient is free from any kind of blood clotting problems.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results
An Abnormal result means that the report is positive. This shows that the patient is going through various blood clotting problems which may be due to following reasons:-
- Pregnancy
- Liver or Heart Disease
- High lipid or recent trauma
How Test Performed
This test is performed by taking the blood sample of the patient. The blood sample is examined and tested in the lab with various specimens to get the accurate results. No prior preparations are required from the patient’s point of view before going for this test.
