Purpose of Test

Electrolytes NA+ K+ PH Test is used to measure the electrolytes concentration in the body to know the electrolytic imbalance if any.  It also helps in diagnosis of conditions caused by imbalance electrolytes such as kidney, dehydration, lung diseases or various heart diseases. Hence, this test has an important significance.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS

The test is performed to check the concentration of different electrolytes and normal range of different electrolytes is different as mentioned :-

  • Sodium level should be from 136 to 142 mmol/L.
  • Potassium level should be from 3.5 to 5.0 mmol/L.
  • Chloride level should be from 98 to 108 mmol/L
  • The normal CO2 range is from 23 to 32 mmol/L

Reasons Behind Abnormal Results

If you have higher or  lower level of electrolytes then you may be prone to the following disorders:-

  • Heart diseases or diabetes
  • Hypertension or dehydration
  • Liver or kidney diseases

How Test Performed

This test is performed by taking the blood sample and then further examining it in the lab using the method pilocarpine iontophoresis. The blood is then examined to know the concentration of various electrolytes in it, and check whether they are in the required amount or not.
