Purpose of Test

C-reactive protein is a type of protein which is highly reactive and may result in serious inflammatory actions inside the body. This test is performed in order to calculate the level of this highly sensitive and reactive protein. A high CRP level may bring inflammation in your heart as well, hence it is an important test to be performed.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The results are said to be normal if the measured level of C-reactive protein is less than 1.0 mg/L.  Higher level than this may risk several heart diseases.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results

High value of C-reactive protein present in blood may lead to several heart diseases. This may be due to or may result in the following complications:-

  • Family history of heart diseases
  • Low HDL level
  • Uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure

How Test Performed

The level of C-reactive protein is measured in the body with the help of a simple blood test. The blood test is carried out by taking the blood sample out from the patient’s body and then later on examining it in the lab. The patient may be asked by the doctor to avoid few medications or fast few hours before the test. Hence, doctor’s advice is a must for calculating accurate results.
