Purpose of Test
Insulin present in our blood is released or produced by beta cells and various other pancreatic cells in the body. Insulin is a hormone which allows various cells in our body to intake glucose. This affects the sugar level of patients hence it helps in determining whether the patient is diabetic or not. For a good health it is necessary to keep the glucose and insulin level in balance proportion in the body.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The results are usually processed by a machine. The value may vary slightly in different labs depending on the patient health and testing parameters.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results
Abnormal insulin level indicates that insulin is not present in a balanced manner in the body with sugar. This may be due to or may indicate the following complications:-
- Sweating and palpitations
- Confusion while thinking and dizziness
- Loss of consciousness
How Test Performed
The test is performed by the common blood sample method where the blood sample of a patient is taken out through venipuncture and is then examined and tested in the lab. Many doctors prefer that the patient should avoid eating few hours before the test for getting the accurate results.
