Purpose of Test
Cholesterol is an important constituent of our body but its access may lead to various heart diseases. Hence, it is important for a doctor to measure the cholesterol level in the body to check the risk of heart disease, presence of heart diseases or diabetes. This is the reason why this LDL test is considered of great importance and significance for determining the patient’s health.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The normal LDL level should be generally in the range of 70 to 189 mg/Dl. However, this normal may be considered high if the patient is suffering from a heart disease or diabetes.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results
Abnormal LDL(Low Density Lipoprotein) may be responsible for several complications or have occurred due to the following reasons:-
- Pre-diabetes or Diabetes
- Heart diseases or stroke
- Excessive fats or obesity
- Genetic causes behind heart diseases
How Test Performed
The test may be performed by normal method of taking out some blood sample from the patient’s body and then examining in the lab. LDL cholesterol is called bad cholesterol which clog the arteries and hence should be wisely measured. The doctor may ask to the patient to do fast few hours before the test.
