Total Serum Protein Test

Collection from Noida & Indirapuram, Ghaziabad

Purpose of Test

There are two types of proteins present in our body namely albumins and globulins. This test is performed to know the level and amount of both of these proteins present in the blood. Both the proteins have their own significance, albumin helps in preventing leakage whereas globulins increase the efficiency of the immune system. Hence, due to this reason both the protein level test are important.
The normal range for this test ranges from 6.0 to 8.3 gm/dL. This value may vary slightly amongst different laboratories.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results

If the result shows the value which is higher or lower than the required value then the results are said to be abnormal.

The Higher than normal levels may be due to chronic inflammation or infection or multiple myeloma. A Lower value may be due to excessive bleeding or hemorrhage , liver diseases or malabsorption.

How Test Performed

The test is performed by taking a blood sample of the patient which is further analyzed and examined to know the level of globulins and albumins in the blood. There are no special preparations required before the test but the patient may be asked to avoid few medications before the test to get accurate results.
