Purpose of Test
When our body breaks down the food contents uric acid is produced. Our blood removes this uric acid from it. This test is used to measure the amount of uric acid present in the blood and to know how much capable your blood is to remove the uric acid content.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The normal values of this test range from 3.5 to 7.2 mg/dl. The result may vary in different labs depending on their testing strategy.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results
The levels may be higher or lower than the normal values which may indicate the following conditions:-
- If you have a higher level of uric acid than required then you may be suffering from acidosis, alcoholism, diabetes, leukemia or renal failure.
- If the uric acid content is low then the required amount than this may be a sign of you suffering from the fanconi syndrome, low level of purine, Wilson disease or chronic kidney diseases.
How Test Performed
Your blood should not be contaminated with alcohol, medications containing disprin/aspirin or high levels of vitamin C hence you should not consume any of these products few hours before this test. For performing this test your blood sample will be taken out which will then be examined and tested for knowing the test results.
