Purpose of Test
Vitamin B12 helps in the healthy and smooth working of our nervous system. Lack of Vitamin B12 may harm our nerves and brain. For this purpose only it is important to know the level of Vitamin-B12, as it is an essential element of our body.
NORMAL TEST RESULTS
The normal values may vary for different laboratories depending on the method of the test. It is generally ranging from 110-1500 pg/ml.
Reasons Behind Abnormal Results
If the level of Vitamin B12 is high or low, then the required value than it may cause the following problems:-
- If you have a high level then you may be suffering from liver diseases or leukaemia.
- Higher level also indicates that either the patient is obese or diabetic.
- The lower level of Vitamin B12 is a sign of Vitamin B12 deficiency which causes anemia. It may also be due to folic acid deficiency or high levels of protein in the blood.
How Test Performed
The test is performed by examining the blood sample of the patient. It is required that the patient should not eat or drink 10-12 hours before the test, as it may alter the test results. The blood sample is examined under the observation of experts through various chemicals and specimens to know the level of Vitamin-B12 in the blood.
